1. On how he got the job at Record Storage Systems:
I started work for Distribution Technology (our parent company) in 1984, as a forklift operator. Eight years later, an opportunity for a supervisory position became available at Record Storage Systems – so I applied and was awarded the job. I’ve been managing the daily record center operations ever since.
2. What aspect of your role as Operations Manager do you enjoy the most?
Helping other people become successful at their jobs and seeing them grow personally and professionally. The information management industry has evolved tremendously over the last 30+ years and I enjoy solving problems and brainstorming new ways to make our processes and operations more efficient. Every day is something different.
3. What has been the biggest change in the document management industry you’ve seen during your time at Record Storage Systems?
I have been around a long time and seen a lot but the biggest changes would have to be the introduction of electronic records and cloud storage and the role that information governance has played in our changing landscape.
4. How do you define success?
At the end of the day, having all customer requests fulfilled and all employees returned to their lives and families safely.
5. What do you like to do on the weekends when you’re not at the office?
There is always plenty of yard and housework to do but if I am not tied up with that, I enjoy dining out or helping others. I love old cars so if I can catch a cruise-in, I enjoy looking and dreaming of owning one!
6. What has been one of your proudest moments working at Record Storage Systems?
When we topped 1 million boxes stored in the record center in 2005.
7. If you could go back in time, what would you most like to tell yourself at age 18?
Don’t sweat the small stuff and remember to enjoy the ride!
